Description

Mrs Boehm describes school-life- patriotic, the national anthem, etc. She was a secretary, signed up and joined the Women's Army Service. Her fiance was in Singapore in the Straits Volunteer forces, taken prisoner of war. Mrs Boehm describes Robert Menzies as a good Prime Minister and war leader. She states that the bombing of Pearl Harbour woke people up to what was happening. She defends the Americans, they stood by the Australians. She joined the AWAS in 1942 as a driver. She then trained as an officer, and was posted to Innisfail,where top-secret experiments in gas-warfare were being carried out. The film "Keen as Mustard" is mentioned, which describes their activities. Mrs Boehm's feelings about the war was that it has helped her get on with people from all walks of life.
