Studio portrait of 2058 Private (Pte) Joseph Archibald Loraine Martin, 31st Australian Infantry Battalion. A grocer prior to enlisting on 28 October 1915, he embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Ballarat (A70) on 18 February 1916. Pte Martin was killed in action during the Battle of Fromelles on 19 July 1916. He was 22 years old.
