Description
Letters written to his family, describing sea voyage, training in Egypt, active service in France and Belgium until gassed in 1917, hospitalisation in England. Comments on conditions at front, conscription, role of Australian forces in heavy fighting, effects of gas, girl friends and relatives in the UK, return to Australia, including the torpedoing of his ship 300 miles out to sea.
