Portrait of 420610 Flight Sergeant (Flt Sgt, later Warrant Officer [WO]) Mervyn John Watson, (Pilot) of Murwillumbah, NSW. The photo was taken at an airstrip camp where No. 453 (Spitfire) Squadron RAAF are operating from advanced landing ground B11, over the Normandy Battlefield. On 14 August 1944 WO Watson was killed during an enemy air raid over the base while he was serving with 453 Squadron.
