Description

Recording of the song titled, 'Somewhere a voice is calling', created as part of the Music and the First World War project. Lyrics written by Eileen Newton with music composed by Arthur F Tate. Produced by Chris Latham, with Rohan Thatcher as vocalist (baritone), and Alan Hicks on piano. This recording was made at Wesley Music Centre, Canberra, on 8 May 2016. The work is performed in the spirit of the time with some changes made for the modern ear.

Chris Latham, producer of this recording, notes: 'This is a pretty tune that could be sung by anyone. It is a pretty piece and a sentimental song. It is a very good commercial song of the period. Words and the melody are just one – perfectly made.'
