History / Summary

The Anglo-Boere Oorlog Medal, was awarded by the Union government to officers and men of the former Boer republics for loyal service in the war against the British. To qualify for the medal proof had to be provided that the claimant had fought against the British without surrendering or taking parole or the oath of allegiance prior to 31 May 1902. The medal is worn with the side showing the arms of the appropriate state uppermost. Transvaal recipients wore the ribbon with green edge to the centre of the chest, while the Orange Free State recipients wore it with the yellow edge to the centre. Named to Burger C J Coetser.
