Ramsay, Ernest Edward (Private, b.1882 - d.1946)
Collection relating to the First World War service of 954 Private Ernest Edward Ramsay, 41st Infantry Battalion, United Kingdom, Europe and Australia, 1916-1947.
Collection consists of two small handwritten diaries covering the periods 2 March - 12 November 1916 and 27 September - 21 November 1917. Also included is a 1916 leave pass for London, a 1917 diary page, an incomplete 1917 letter, a section of the last will and testament of E E Ramsay, a statement made by Ramsay's sister regarding his death and a letter sent by the Public Curator Office in 1947. The diaries detail many aspects of Ramsay's service including important dates, his time at sea, leave in South Africa en route to the UK, training on the Salisbury Plain, leave activities in London, meeting his brother Percy in camp and his return journey home.
This collection directly relates to AWM2017.144.6, papers associated with Ramsay's brothers Percy and James, and their father Edward.
