Liley, Jack William Fenton (Warrant Officer)
Description
Memoir written by Jack William Fenton Liley, "Jack's war" documenting his service with the Royal Australian Air Force in the Second World War. Liley describes his aircrew training in Australia and England, action in North Africa with the 40 Squadron RAF and his capture by the Italians after parachuting from a damaged aircraft. Liley became a prisoner of war moving between the camps Stalag Luft 1 in Barth Germany, Stalag Luft VI in Heydekrug, Lithuania and Stalag Luft IV in Tychowo, Poland. Liley writes in detail about the daily conditions of life in the camps and the forced marches in early 1945.
