Description
Mauser Model Gew 98 Rifle. The weapon is a bolt action with a five round non detachable magazine. It features a full length wooden stock, post front sight and adjustable tangent rear sight. The receiver is stamped with a crown over SPANDAU over 1916. It is complete with a cleaning rod and adjustable leather sling.
History / Summary
This rifle was captured from a German soldier at Warneton on the night of 3/4 March 1918 during a raid on enemy trenches by a party of the 33rd Battalion. The rifle was donated by Lieutenant W A McLean of the 33rd Battalion AIF.
