STEN Mk IIS Sub-machine Gun
STEN Mark IIS sub-machine gun. Tubular steel construction receiver with a barrel jacket silencer tube. A khaki canvas heat protector cover is laced onto the silencer tube. The trigger box is made from folded sheet steel and it has a pressed curved steel skeleton butt. The magazine port is marked on top STEN Mk IIS and the serial number with RTL underneath. Overall painted olive green. The bolt has been removed for display purposes. Fitted with a magazine.
This type of weapon was developed for use behind enemy lines by the resistance movement in Europe and by most Commonwealth commando units. Due to the short barrel under the jacket the bolt is lighter and the return spring shorter than the standard Mk II. Although an automatic weapon it was used mainly on single shot function and at close range.
