German Artillery Sword
Description
German Artillery sword. The hilt is a steel stirrup type with langets on the crossguard and a rounded backstrap. The crossguard is engraved 59. The grips are black leather over wood. The curved blade has a single fuller on each side to within 90 mm of the double edged spear point. The back edge is stamped with a crown over W 15 and the ricasso is marked WEYERSBERG.
History / Summary
This type of sword was originally designed for the Prussian Artillery. In 1871 it was adopted by the other German States and used during the First World War.
