Harrison, Denis Harold (Able Seaman)
Transcript of diary and recollection spanning WW2, includes time spent studying at Agricultural College where Harrison joined 6th Cavalry Mobile Veterinary Section. Describes service with RANR and RAN. Mentions work in Darwin with Boom Defence and Boom Ship HMAS "Karangi" in 1942/43, details air movements of allied naval and merchant ships, loss of HMAS Armidale. Harrison completed a gunnery course at Flinders Naval Depot, was then drafted to HMAS "Gascoyne", describes service at Hollandia, Leyte and Lingayen Gulf (for the invasion of the Philippines, mentions many air attacks), and Balikpapan. Describes Japanese suicide planes, use of depth charges, manning Oerlikon anti-aircraft guns, VE Day in Melbourne, and Japanese surrender ceremony at Morotai.
