British Pattern 1899 cavalry troopers sword and scabbard. The guard is sheet steel with a sword knot slit near the pommel and has a pear shaped reinforcing washer on the outside around the blade. It is stamped on the inside edge 3/01 DR 371 SD over 426(crossed out) and 19H over 550. The grips are two piece checkered leather attached to the tang with three large rivets. The blade is slightly curved with a single broad fuller on each side to within eight inches of the spear point and has '/99 Enfield proof stamp on the flat back edge. The ricasso is stamped with a broad arrow over EFD over X on the right side and numerous issue dates between 1901 to 1909 and four inspectors marks on the left. The steel scabbard has fixed sling rings on each side just below the throat.
The markings on this sword indicate that it was last issued to the British Eighteenth Hussars Regiment.
