Victorian engineers at school DPR/TV/149
More than 80 Victorian members of the Citizen Military Force are receiving specialised training at the School of Military Engineering at Casula in NSW. They belong to the 2nd, 8th and 10th Field Squadrons and the 15th Corps Field Park Squadron of the Royal Australian Engineers. Their training at the school takes in a wide range of military engineering skills including the improvisation of rafts from assault boats. Set the task of shifting a vehicle across the Georges River, they improvised a four-ton raft with two assault boats, transomes and tracking. The fact that the Victorians had learned their lessons was proved when Lance-Corporal Peter Raymant of 2 Florence Street Mentone, Victoria, drove his vehicle on to the raft which was floated out to mid-stream.
