Description
M203 Grenade Launcher. Marked on the left side LAUNCHER GRENADE M203 40MM and the serial number. It is a light-weight, single-shot, breech loading (sliding barrel) shoulder fired grenade launcher that attaches to the underside of an assault rifle. It consists of a black plastic top handguard, receiver, sliding ribbed breech and barrel. Overall painted black.
History / Summary
This type of weapon was used for various types of high explosive fragmentation rounds and smoke ammunition. It was developed during 1967 and became a substitute for the M79 grenade launcher, which fired the same type of ammunition. It is fitted to an M16 rifle accessioned as REL/10975.001.
