75 mm M 17 Kolben Smoothbore Mortar
Muzzle-loading mortar made from steel tubing and cut steel plate and channel. The mortar frame is held together by rivets and bolts. The barrel is supported by a steel frame which allows the barrel to elevate and depress. The barrel is aimed sideways by simply moving the whole carriage in azimuth. The barrel trunnions slide in a sheet steel quadrant race, with elevated achieved by by loosening a bolt attached to the trunnion The frame is bolted and rivetted onto three steel 'C' channels, two of which have carry handles attached at each end. The mortar is painted matt grey/green. Markings - 147.
Austro-Hungarian Kolben smoothbore mortar issued to Turkish Army units in Palestine during the First World War. The mortar was captured by the Australian Light Horse.
