Fox, Henry Peter (Private, b.1889 - d.?)
Collection relating to the First World War service of 2781 Private Henry Peter Fox, 4 Battalion, France. Collection consists of one original handwritten '4th Australian Infantry Battalion Diary' for 1918 kept while serving in France. The front of the diary contains printed information on military definitions, flags, reports, field kitchens, rifles, knots, abbreviations, maps, medals, directions, first aid, bugle calls, semaphore and morse, ranks and badges, foreign languages and currency, a brief history of 4th Battalion and officers, songs, standing orders, and the rising and setting of the sun and moon. The diary covers leave in England, Hill 60, and fighting in the Somme area. Pte Fox survived the war and returned to Australia in 1919.
