Wallet 1 of 1 – Consists of one letter from war correspondent, Mr Rohan Deakin Rivett, to Staff Sergeant Sellers’ wife, Mrs Margaret Ann Sellers [née Sala], dated 21 September 1945. In his letter, Mr Rivett expresses his sympathy relating to the death of Staff Sergeant Sellers, his good friend, and shares stories of times that he and Sergeant Sellers had spent together as prisoners of war of the Japanese. Mr Rivett writes briefly about working on the Burma-Thai Railway, being ill in hospital, Staff Sergeant Sellers’ kind character, and hearing the sad news of Staff Sergeant Sellers’ death, and his intention to visit Mrs Sellers shortly.
Staff Sergeant Charles Thompson “Charlie” Sellers enlisted to the Second Australian Imperial Force on 22 May 1940. He served with 2/6 Field Company in the Middle East and the Netherlands East Indies. In March 1942, Staff Sergeant Sellers was captured as a prisoner of war by the Japanese on Java. As a prisoner, he worked on the Burma-Thai Railway and suffered numerous bouts of illness. On 28 January 1945, Staff Sergeant Sellers died of illness in Thailand. He is buried at Kanchanaburi War Cemetery, Thailand.
