Collection relating to the Second World War service of 414549 Flight Sergeant Noel Oliver Boyd Flitcroft, No. 460 Squadron, Royal Australian Air Force, Australia and United Kingdom, 1943-1951.

Flight Sergeant Flitcroft served as an air gunner with No. 460 Squadron, based in the United Kingdom. On 17 June 1943, Flight Sergeant Flitcroft’s crew successfully carried out a bombing operation on Cologne, Germany. However their Lancaster aircraft sustained heavy damage during the operation. The aircraft crashed at Elsham Wilds, Lincolnshire, while flying back to their home base, and all members of the crew were killed. Flight Sergeant Flitcroft was buried at Brigg Cemetery, Lincolnshire.

1x Telegram from the Royal Australian Air Force to Flight Sergeant Flitcroft’s wife, Mrs Elspeth Flitcroft, dated 20 [June 1943], informing her that Flight Sergeant Flitcroft had lost his life in air operations.
1x Letter from the Commanding Officer of 460 Squadron to Mrs Flitcroft, dated 24 June 1943, giving details of the event in which Flight Sergeant Flitcroft was killed.
1x Letter from the Casualty Section of the Department of Air to Mrs Flitcroft, dated 24 June 1943, confirming the death of Flight Sergeant Flitcroft.
1x Certificate of Death on War Service relating to Flight Sergeant Flitcroft, issued to Mrs Flitcroft, dated 17 July 1943.
1x State of Queensland Certificate of Death relating to Noel Oliver Boyd Flitcroft, issued on 28 March 1951.
