Diary of Alfred Ernest Forbes, September-October 1916
Description
Diary relating to the First World War service of 53 Private Alfred Ernest Forbes, 37th Battalion. The diary covers the period of late September to early October 1916. The diary is written several days after the events took place. Forbes notes the preparations and the visit itself of King George the fifth on 27 September 1916. He goes on to record his experience in the training “Bustard Trenches” around Larkhill on Salisbury Plain, England. He describes the cold and mud and makes a drawing of his battalion’s positions.
