The letters were written while Private Stevens was training with 2/3 Australian Infantry Battalion in Palestine in 1940. In his letters, Private Stevens writes about enjoying army life, his sea voyage to Palestine, looking forward to letters from Australia, riding on camels, and his impressions of the local people and environment.
