Studio portrait of 3458 Private (Pte) George Young, 47th Battalion. A rope maker prior to enlistment, Pte Young embarked for overseas service aboard HMAT Ayrshire (A33) on 24 January 1917. He was transferred to the 42nd Battalion on 2 January 1918. Pte Young was killed in action on 25 August 1918, aged 23 years, and is buried in the Bronfay Farm Military Cemetery at Bray-sur-Somme, France.
