Description

Studio portrait of 11147 Bombardier (Bdr) Erle Victor Weiss, 1st Australian Field Artillery Brigade, of Singleton, NSW. Bdr Weiss was killed in action on 9 August 1918. His brother, 3578A Private (Pte) Frederick Alfred Weiss, 53rd Battalion was also killed in action almost two years earlier on 19 July 1916 at Fromelles. A third brother, NX36483 Pte Harry Blanch Weiss, served with the 2/30 Battalion in the Second World War, was taken prisoner of war of the Japanese and died of illness whilst in captivity in Thailand on 30 September 1943.
