Champ, John Wilton Knox 'Jack' (Lieutenant, b.1913 - d.1998)
Description
Collection related to the Second World War service of Lieutenant John 'Jack' Champ, 2/6th Infantry Battalion, and prisoner of war. Collection consists of a copy of a diary made in Oflag IVC, Colditz, which details the construction of an escape tunnel from Oflag VIIB at Eichstatt between December 1942 - June 1943. Includes diagrams, nominal roll of officers involved. The original diary was compiled by Lieutenant Jock Hamilton-Baillie, Royal Engineers; the copy was made by Jack Champ. Also included in the front of the diary is a handwritten copy of a poem, attributed to Lieutenant George S Drew, 58th Regiment.
