Description

Studio portrait of 4617 Lance Corporal (L/Cpl) Leo Stanley Tisdell, 30th Battalion of Newcastle, NSW (right side) and George Smith (left side). A labourer prior to enlistment, L/Cpl Tisdell embarked with the 12th Reinforcements from Sydney aboard HMAT Beltana (A72) on 25 November 1916. He was killed in action in France, on 8 August, 1918 aged 30. This portrait was taken by L/Cpl Tisdell's brother-in-law, Alfredo Cavalchini.
