Description

Group portrait of members of the 12th Battalion with their newly stencilled kitbags. Some of the men are holding the stencils with the words "12TH BATT", "REINFORCEMENTS", "AIF" and "TAS". while another two soldiers are holding pots of white paint. Identified names on the kitbags include: Lieutenant (Lt) Raymond Adams (back row); 6707 Private (Pte) Walter John Airey (front left); and 6727 Pte Fernando Dennis (front, second from left). Lt Adams was killed in action on 6 May 1917 at Bullecourt, France. Pte Airey was also killed in action at Bullecourt 5-8 May 1917.
