Studio portrait of 16528 Sapper Sydney Hill Carpenter, 2nd Field Company Australian Engineers. A motor body builder prior to his enlistment, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Orsova (A67) on 2 December 1916. He was wounded in the leg by a shell blast near his billet in the French village of Borre and died several days later on 21 April 1918, aged 23. He is buried in Ebblinghem Military Cemetery, France.
