Signed embroidered tablecloth : Mesdames Emma Foster and Olga Hope Pott (nee Foster)

White linen embroidered tablecloth with crochet lace border. The tablecloth is embroidered with a central pattern of pink, purple, blue and yellow flowers with green leaves and a brown dotted background. The leaves have been embroidered in twisted chain and stem stitch and the brown dots are french knot stitch. Covering the majority of the tablecloth are soldiers signatures and details which have been embroidered over in red and maroon cotton thread.

This cloth was signed by numerous servicemen stationed in Darwin during the Second World War and embroidered by the donor's mother, Olga Pott and grandmother Emma Foster.

Foster was a tailoress in Darwin and altered serviceman's uniforms. It is assumed it was in this role that she acquired the signatures of the men. The signatures cover a wide variety of Navy, Army and Air Force units and is believed to date from as early as 1941 with members of
2/21 Battalion present.

One signature is believed to be from a First World War serviceman - Harry Pott, the donor's Uncle who died of wounds in France on 10 August 1916.
