Studio portrait of 3008 Private (Pte) Gordon John Staude, 3rd Australian Light Horse Regiment. A farmer from Bordertown, SA prior to enlistment, Pte Staude embarked with the 22nd Reinforcements from Melbourne on HMAT Clan MacEwen on 9 October 1916. Whilst serving in the Middle East he transferred to the rank of Driver. Later contracting pneumonia, he was evacuated to Egypt where, on 25 October 1918, aged 27, he succumbed to his illness and was buried in the Cairo War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt.
