Description

Studio portrait of Second Lieutenant (2nd Lt) Alan Serafino Righetti, 2nd Australian Light Horse Regiment from Jondaryan, Queensland. He is shown wearing a circa 1912-1914 Militia uniform. A 25 year old storekeeper, he served for two years in the Militia as a 2nd Lt in D Troop, A Squadron, 3rd Light Horse Regiment prior to being appointed a 2nd Lt in the AIF on 31 December 1914. He embarked for overseas with the 3rd Reinforcements from Brisbane, Queensland on 9 February 1915 aboard HMAT Itria. After serving at Gallipoli, he went on to serve in Egypt where he was promoted to Lieutenant on 1 March 1916. Lt Righetti was killed in action at Romani on 4 August 1916 and is buried in the Kantara War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt.
