Aussies arrive at Phan Rang
US Air Force coverage of the arrival of the RAAF at Phan Rang, South Vietnam. Shows the arrival of Caribou A4-191 of No. 35 Squadron RAAF. Australians deplanning with luggage possibly members of No. 5 Airfield Construction Squadron. Construction of buildings by No. 5 ACS at Phan Rang. Canberra bombers of No. 2 Squadron RAAF arrive at Phan Rang Airbase 19 May 1967. The Squadron was greeted by Lieutenant General Momyer 7th Air Force Commander. Wing Commander R Aronsen led a formation of 8 Canberras from Butterworth to Phan Rang South Vietnam. Formation flight over the welcoming parade. Officials present at the welcoming were Major General D Vincent Commander Australian Forces Vietnam and Air Commodore Dowling who in a brief speech handed over operational control of the squadron to General Momyer. Australians welcomed with a party which included a Philipino rock band at the 'Viper Club' the USAF NCO Mess at Phan Rang. RAAF armourers bombing up Canberras at night with 500lb bombs. Item concludes with scenes of a pilot performing prefilght check, boarding and take off for a bombing mission.
