1000 men and women jammed on a tiny destroyer
Description
Cinesound newsreel on the embarkation at Sydney of two thousand six hundred Japanese ex-internees and POWs aboard the Daikai Maru for return to Japan. The Daikai Maru's normal accommodation was for three hundred persons. Onto Japanese destroy Yuzuki embarked one thousand persons including Chinese Formosan women and children who were compelled to share the ship with the Japanese. Australian Military Police seized those who refused to board the ship and forced them embarked. The narrator accuses the authorities of brutality.
