Vietnam village search DPR/TV/570
Officers of the 5th Battalion RAR are briefed by their CO, Lieutenant Colonel J A Warr for an operation to cordon and search a village for suspect Viet Cong and their sympathisers. Troops disembark from APC's some miles from the village and prepare for a night long march to their objective. As troops advance through the jungle undergrowth artillery shells blast a Viet Cong observation post on small mountain range. Following casualties from Viet Cong booby traps, RAAF helicopters arrive to evacuate casualties. A Viet Cong suspect is brought in for questioning by Vietnamese National Police and is loaded onto a land rover while Australian troops control movement of buses and other vehicles through the village. Some former Viet Cong members now working with the government hand out government pamphlets to waiting suspect. While Vietnamese Government Officials interrogate, Australian soldiers hand out food and clothing to villagers and play cricket to entertain the children. Cameraman Sergeant Mike Coleridge.
