Entry into Syria
Description
In June 1941 Damien Parer of the Australian Photographic Unit followed in the path of advancing units of the Allied Force (including the 7th Australian Division) which invaded Syria. Scenes record the entry into Syria and capture of Fort Khaim and town of Merjayoun; British Major General reading declaration of British policy in Syria to town dignitaries of Merjayoun. Identified are; Colonel Monaghan Commanding Officer 2/2 Pioneer Battalion shown receiving message from motor cycle despatch rider. Lieutenant J W Hutton 'D' Troop, 12 Battery, 2/6 Field Regiment is shown standing facing right with megaphone. Other identified unit is 2/33 Battalion Carrier Platoon showing Bren carriers fording stream.
