Description

Shot by Damien Parer, the first scenes of this film are of a coastal craft flying the flag of Palestine. Max the chief engineer was a German U boat commander in the First World War and is seen talking and showing photographs to Sergeant Stan Sheldon, a well known Sydney sporting personality. The craft carried mail and Australian Comforts Fund (ACF) parcels. Protection of the vessel gun crews were drawn from Postal and ACF personnel. Further footage includes scenes of Australian and Indian troops at various tasks in and around Tobruk; German and Italian prisoners of war; printing of the "Tobruk Truth" and "The Dinkum Oil"; shipping wrecks in Tobruk Harbour, and a merchant vessel under air attack, hit and sunk in Tobruk Harbour.
