Description

This image was published as a full-colour supplement to British "Vanity Fair" magazine on the 29th of November 1900. It features several of the leading British figures serving in the Boer War, including Field Marshal Frederick Roberts and Lieutenant General Herbert Kitchener. Roberts is seated at the centre of the image, and his foot rests on a caricature by the same artist of Boer leader Paul Kruger, that had been published in Vanity Fair in March 1900. l-r: Colonel (later Lieutenant General Sir) Herbert Charles Plumer, Lieutenant General Sir Archibald Hunter MID, Major General Sir Hector Archibald MacDonald KCB DSO, Commander of Brigade, General Sir Redvers Buller, Lieutenant General (later Sir) Robert Stephenson Baden-Powell, Field Marshal Lord (Frederick Sleigh) Roberts, 1st Earl Roberts, Commander in Chief, Major General Lord Douglas Mackinnon Baillie Cochrane, 12th Earl of Dundonald (commanded mounted troops in South Field Force), Lieutenant General (later Field Marshal) Lord (Horatio Herbert) Kitchener, Commander in Chief 1900-1902, Lieutenant General Sir George White, Lieutenant General Sir Reginald Pole Carew, KCB, commanded 11th British Division, Sir John Denton Pinkstone French, commanded Cavalry Division, Major General Sir Frederick Carrington, commanded a Field Force in various campaigns.
