AIF embarking - night scene
Description
Sketch was made at Port Tewfic, Suez Canal. Looking along the aft well deck on the M.V "Anna Odland". The last trucks have been placed in position on the hatches, the drivers already embarked, are preparing to sleep, some below, others on the hatch and in their trucks. This will be their homes for the next few weeks. Cook-house and wash places (left) have been built on the deck. There is a complete blackout in all places except wharves and ships working. These were blacked out on receiving yellow warning. This drawing was made using reflected light from loading light. Spots were caused by rain, Suez, Egypt.
