Description

Illustration depicts an image of a witch sitting hunched over a spinning wheel producing ammunition with a black cat at her feet. Visible in the background is a big black cauldron boiling skulls and bones. Published in the Sydney 'Bulletin' magazine on 1 November 1917, this illustration relates to a series of work generated by Lindsay for the publication during the First World War. The 'Bulletin' had by this time become quite conservative and Lindsay's wartime illustrations tended to be apocalyptic rather than satirical; the eternal forces of good against those of evil.
