Description
Depicts troops and civilians in Haifa moving towards shelter during an alarm for an air raid. A small newspaper clipping pasted to the front of the drawing reads "Air Raid Alarm in Haifa: An air raid warning was sounded here this morning and the 'all clear came after 15 minutes. No bombs were dropped, and the A.A. guns were not in action." This drawing is part of a series produced about the Syria Campaign of 1941. The campaign involved Australian troops, mostly from the 7th Division, fighting alongside allied troops against the Vichy French in Syria and Lebanon. Australian Imperial Force units arrived in Palestine (then a British mandate territory) early in 1940. They trained there before entering action in North Africa early in 1941.
