Dornier Flying Boat
Description
A number of these Dornier DO 24 aircraft were flown to Australia by their Dutch naval pilots from the Netherland East Indies after the Japanese invasion of Java and Sumatra. Those which survived the first disastrous raid on Broome shortly after their arrival with refugees, were flown to Rathmines and later handed over to the Royal Australian Air Force. They are German built aircraft of a well known design (DO 24) but in this case are powered with American motors.
