Description

Japanese soldier's autographed national flag with numerous signatures and patriotic slogans in black ink. The corners of the hoist are bound with triangular pieces of gold-painted leatherette that have tapes attached to them. Apart from the traditional wish for long-lasting good fortune in war and 'Banzai!', many of Adachi's friends have written patriotic slogans to accompany their signatures. These include 'Demonstrate the Japanese spirit' and a haiku poem 'The flag of the Holy War Is fluttering Under the blue sky'. There is also 'Bring back the head of Chiang Kai-shek' which implies that Adachi fought in China before being transferred to the south Pacific.
