Description

Maxim MG08 Heavy Machine Gun. Receiver top stamped MG08 and the serial number. Fusee cover engraved DEUTSCHE WAFFEN BERLIN 1917 MUNITIONS FABRIKEN. The barrel jacket is painted dark green. It is missing both oil brushes from the grips and does not have a muzzle compensator.

History / Summary

This gun was captured on the night of 1 May 1918 during the second operation against El Salt. At 8pm, Lieutenant King of the 2nd Light Horse Regiment attacked some enemy posts with a party of 20 men. King's party killed five Turks, took a fe wmore prisoner and captured this machine guncaptured post and secured this gun. King was killed in action on 14 July 1918.
