Description

File of papers relating to the First World War service of Major General John Monash, 3rd Australian Division. This file, originally part of Book 17, covers 11 February 1918 to 18 March 1918 and includes documents relating to a number of raids carried out in February and March. In particular, it consists of a report on a raid of 10 February, including a list of missing and wounded, messages relating to the success of the raid, an extensive plan for a minor offensive against Warneton, including a report on the raid itself and detailed maps of the area. Additionally, the file contains a draft and published version of a General Staff Circular on machine guns and their correct tactical usage, as well as correspondence relating to the demonstration of 'Varley' bombs and an itinerary and items list for Monash's leave to the South of France.
