Description

Collection relating to the Second World War service of QX22869 Private (Pte) Allan James Brown. Comprises 16 original handwritten letters, with accompanying envelopes, written to Pte Brown from numerous relatives including his father, brother Jack, sister Doddie, Aunt Aggie, and friends Evelyn, Ernie and Irene. The letters are an example of the type of correspondence sent to Australian soldiers serving overseas by their family and friends. Many of the letters were sent to Pte Brown when stationed at HQ New Guinea Forces, and also Australian General Transport Companies in Cairns. Included with the letter written by his father, dated 23 November 1942, is a souvenir concert programme from New Guinea, dated 20 January 1944 titled 'Australian Army Amentities Service presents Strella Wilson, Edwin Styles, Letty Keyes'. Collection also includes one type written letter to Pte Brown from 2/103 Australian Transport Platoon, relating to Canteen Orders, as well as one Leave Pass for Pte Brown in 1941.
