Featherweight contest trophy : Trooper T C Watson, Imperial Camel Corps
Description
Silver sporting trophy with a rounded body supported by a short base. The body has an elliptical shape to the top and two small handles which curve out from the sides and end just above the front and back lip of the cup. The front of the cup is engraved '1st PRIZE / FEATHER 10 RDS / OUR DAY RED + CAIRO 7.11.17 / PRESTD BY THE PYRAMIDS BREWERY CO.' The back of the trophy is engraved with ' WON BY / TPR T.C. WATSON / I.C.C.'.
History / Summary
This trophy was presented to Trooper Thomas Cecil Watson of the Imperial Camel Corps, as first prize in a featherweight boxing contest of 10 rounds held during the Red Cross Carnival in Cairo on 7 November 1917. The cup was donated by the Pyramids Brewery Company.
