Description

Informal portrait of 5366 Sergeant (Sgt) Ormond McAndrew, 13th Company, Australian Service Corps. A butcher from Kingston, Victoria prior to enlistment, Sgt McAndrew embarked with the Field Butchery & Bakery Section from Melbourne on HMAT Berrima on 29 April 1915. Following service in the Middle East with 4th Field Butchery, he was promoted to Warrant Officer Class One. Whilst in England he developed pneumonia and, on 23 October 1918, he succumbed to his illness and was buried in the Australian section of the Brookwood Military Cemetery, England.
