Studio portrait of 3489 Private John Wilfred Coutts, with a young Egyptian boy wearing a fez seated at his feet. A tailor from Sydney, Pte Coutts embarked with the 2nd Battalion from Sydney aboard HMAT Euripides on 2 November 1915. He later transferred to the 53rd Battalion in February 1916. Pte Coutts was killed in action in France on 25 October 1916, aged 20 years old.
