Collection relating to the Operation Trek service of Colonel James Craig 'Jim' Dittmar CSC, International Peace Monitoring Team (IPMT), Solomon Islands, 2001.
Wallet 1 of 1 - Consists of a diary and a contact book used by Dittmar during his deployment as commander of the Australian Service Contingent on Operation Trek, part of the IPMT in the Solomon Islands, from 26 August to 18 December 2001. The diary contains entries of Dittmar's impressions and daily activities during the deployment. He writes of his arrival in Honiara, impressions of his accommodation, notes on briefings, interactions with local peoples and military personnel, visiting Second World War battle sites and memorials, attending church services, recreation and food, his movements around the Solomon Islands, the security situation, and his working relationship with the captain and crew of HMAS Melbourne (1989-2019) and with the Australian High Commission. Included in the diary are handouts, programs, invitations, and other pieces of ephemera that Dittmar collected during the deployment and are placed in the diary on related dates.
