Collection related to Mrs Winifred Mary (Freda) Duckworth who was a Representative with the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) in Japan with the British Commonwealth Occupation Force (BCOF) from 1947 to 1950. Comprises two very detailed diaries written by Mrs Duckworth from the time she sailed from Australia on HMAS Kanimbla in October 1947, photograph album and loose photographs of her time in Japan, as well her diary and photographs from her return visit to Japan during the 1960s. The first two diaries are original carbon copies and have been written in letter form to 'Mary'. They provide details of her welfare work in YWCA hostels, her living conditions, and the names of other YWCA Representatives also working in hostels in Japan at the same time. A related collection is PR01675, comprising material relating to Captain Flora McNab who served with the Australian Army Medical Women's Service (AAMWS) in Japan at the same time as Mrs Duckworth.
