Wallet 1 of 1 – Consists of one report, one letter [including one newspaper clipping] and one Aircrew Proficiency Certificate relating to Flight Lieutenant John Ronald Rose. The report gives details of a journey to New Guinea that Flight Lieutenant Rose volunteered to participate in as a cadet, in January-February 1942. In his report, Flight Lieutenant Rose writes about travelling to Wau via Port Moresby, talking to pilots about their experiences, assisting an engineer in repairing Lockheed aircraft, experiencing Japanese air raids, and returning to Australia. The letter, dated 10 February 1942, was written by the Director-General of the Department of Civil Aviation to the pilots and ground crew that assisted with the evacuation of wounded civilians during the Japanese air raids. It contains details of the flying training that Flight Lieutenant Rose had completed and the aircraft that he was proficient in operating.
